what to wear
Your daisy field session is designed to feel light, relaxed, and timeless. Soft colours, natural fabrics, and simple styling help create images that feel like a moment in time — not something tied to a trend.
The right clothing allows the focus to stay where it belongs: on your family, your connection, and the beautiful setting around you.
The Look We’re Creating
Think:
- Barefoot summer
- Soft sunlight
- Gentle movement
- Natural beauty
- A feeling of warmth and nostalgia
These portraits are meant to feel like a memory — something you’ll still love in twenty years.
Colours That Work Beautifully
Soft, muted tones photograph best in the daisy field. They blend gently with the natural surroundings and keep the images feeling light and elegant.
- Beautiful colour choices include:
- Cream, ivory and soft white
- Beige, taupe and warm neutrals
- Soft blush, dusty rose and peach
- Pale blue and soft grey
- Sage or muted greens
These tones reflect light beautifully and keep the overall look calm and cohesive.
Fabrics & Textures
Choose clothing that moves and feels soft rather than stiff or structured.
The best fabrics:
- Linen
- Cotton
- Gauze
- Muslin
- Light knits
- Soft, flowing dresses
These create gentle movement in the breeze and photograph beautifully against the daisies.
What Works Well for Each Person
For mums
Flowy dresses, soft wraps, or skirts with movement work beautifully. Choose something you feel comfortable and lovely in — nothing too tight or restrictive.
For dads
Neutral shirts, light knits, or button-ups in soft tones pair perfectly. Avoid heavy logos or harsh patterns.
For children
Simple dresses, rompers, soft shirts and neutral shorts or trousers photograph best. Bare feet or neutral sandals are perfect.
A Note About Footwear
There is a small stream in one of the areas I photograph in, so you may want to bring along a pair of crocs, jandals, or shoes you don’t mind getting wet just in case.
Once we arrive, children are welcome to go barefoot or change into neutral shoes if you’ve brought them.
What to Avoid
To keep your images timeless and beautiful, please avoid:
- Bright or neon colours
- Bold patterns or stripes
- Large logos or writing
- Busy florals
- Denim, black, or dark heavy tones
- Matching outfits exactly
These can distract from the natural, soft look we’re creating and pull attention away from faces and connection.
Planning Your Outfits
A little bit of planning before your session makes such a difference. I recommend laying all your outfits out together on a bed or the floor so you can see how the colours and textures work as a group.
Start by choosing one outfit you love — often Mum’s — and build the rest of the family’s look around that. This keeps everything flowing naturally without feeling too “matchy.”
If you’d like a second opinion, you’re very welcome to take a quick photo of your outfit options and send it through to me. I’m always happy to help guide you so everything looks beautiful together.
Keep It Simple
Your family doesn’t need to “match” — they just need to harmonise.
Choose outfits that sit within the same soft colour palette so everything flows together naturally in the photos.
When in doubt:
Light, neutral and soft is always best.
