What to Wear
Baby portrait sessions are designed to be simple and timeless, so the focus stays on your baby’s expressions, personality, and beautiful little details — not the clothing.
Simple clothing always photographs best.

simple is best

The best outfits for baby portraits are:
- Plain
- Neutral colours
- Soft fabrics
- No patterns or logos
- Nothing too bulky
Beautiful options include:
- Plain rompers
- Knit onesies
- Simple dresses
- Bloomers
- Nappy covers
- Soft knitted sets
- Textured outfits (knit, ribbed, linen, muslin)
Colours That Photograph Beautifully
Soft, neutral colours work best in the studio and keep the images looking classic and timeless.
Lovely colour choices include:
- Cream
- Ivory
- Beige
- Soft browns
- Pale blue
- Soft sage
- Dusty pink
- Light grey
- White
If you’re unsure, cream, beige, or soft neutral tones are always perfect.
What to Avoid
To keep the focus on your baby, please avoid:
Bright colours
Large patterns
Logos or writing
Cartoon characters
Neon colours
Heavy denim
Black clothing
Very busy outfits
Anything with lots of frills or large bows
These can be distracting and date the images over time.
Studio Wardrobe
I have a small collection of simple baby outfits, rompers, and wraps available to use during your session, so you don’t need to purchase anything specially unless you would like to.
You are welcome to bring a favourite outfit, but I recommend bringing one or two simple options rather than lots of clothing.
A Few Extra Tips
- Make sure outfits fit well (not too big)
- Remove tight socks before the session to avoid marks on legs
- Bring wipes and a spare outfit
- A small snack or drink can be helpful for older babies
- A favourite small toy can help get smiles
When in Doubt
If you’re unsure what to bring, you’re very welcome to lay outfits out and send me a photo, and I can help you choose what will photograph best.
Simple, soft, and neutral is always the safest and most beautiful option.
